LAX's is so removed from the terminals it is not terribly practical unless you have a really long layover.
OTOH, it is one of the finest USOs in existance (at least that I have been to). The Bob Hope USO at LAX is separate from the other USO organization, relying on donations from the LA area. It started originally as the Hollywood Canteen during WW II and funded largely from donations from patriotic movie stars (boy! have times changed!). There are sleeping rooms, showers, razors, toothbrushes, etc. in addition to the usual hot dogs, sandwiches, and snack foods and TV area. The last time I was there, one could hardly get by in the halls from all the boxes of donated food. Once, I had a 24-hour layover due to late incoming flight and stayed the whole time at the USO.
Everyone in the nation should be proud of the USO and what it does. While I was in Bosnia in the early 1990s, they sent books, tapes, etc. which were most welcome to escape from the stress of land mines and Serb snipers. Where I am now in Korea, the USO sends over top-rated shows (even the Muppets for kids were here recently). The USO does much more than the lounges. Thanks to all the volunteers and donors!
