Crazy experience:

I track my points very carefully. I travel a lot for work (Travelocity and Hotels.com) and thus have a lot of points outstanding at any point in time.

Last week, I called to get 6,600 missing points posted. They posted 5,000 but the other 1,600 never posted. I called yesterday and they posted 2,500 (automatic adjustment) as an apology and to catch me up. Later last night, nearly 5,000 points posted (in the normal way, through the mall) from a transaction from 10/1/13, 70 days after the purchase.
