They do vary, which means there is an element of uncertainty compared to Chase's approach. Using Membership Rewards "Pay with Points" option for airfare caps the value at $0.01 each, which is mediocre. If you like that approach you would do better with a number of other award programs, but that topic is best explored in another thread.
