It's worth noting we contacted BA prior to the passport being reissued and were told there wouldn't be any problem with a name change for reasons of marriage. At this time they were provided with our booking details so knew there were code share segments.
The agent likely meant that it wouldn't be a problem flying under the booked (maiden) name and travelling with a passport under the married name.
You will need to go through your TA to change the name, not directly with BA.
