Thanks, that makes sense!

Next year we're booked SFO(BR)TPE(BR)HKG(CA)CTU on a UA award, 48 hours in CTU, then CTU(NH)NRT,HND(BR)TSA on a US award. With 22 hours in Japan I'm confident that will count as exiting to a third country.

Will BR check us in onward for the CA segment, or will that be handled at the transit desk in HKG? In other words, which airline's agents should we expect to deal with for proving TWOV eligibility? (Either way, I'm guessing both those carriers' agents are more up-to-speed than most USA-based carriers' on such rules.)
