All good points, but the restaurant and bar were closing at 11:00pm, and I asked to just have it at the front desk or the room, whichever was easier. I didn't care where the food was, just that it existed.
I figure ordering food pre-arrival is a bit unusual, but not so strange that experienced staff should have difficulty pulling it off.
I was probably more concerned that the 11:00pm cutoff for room service was really 10:30pm according to the restaurant.
I understand people want to clean up and go home, and any restaurant hates it when folks arrive just before closing time, but if you do not want to take new orders after 10:30pm, you need to say that your cutoff is 10:30pm.
