Depends on the airport, but I observed this exact situation Monday night at EWR, a pax in precheck asked to use the pornoscanner and TSA said yes and called over to the next lane "Precheck going through". Pretty sure they did make him remove his shoes, however.

Have you tried going through the PreCheck WTMD? They are usually set less sensitive than the usual ones...
