I think AM takes over the underlying booking on redemption upgrade
But suppose you're right. Shouldn't AM request OP change his revenue ticket via TA first before changing his upgrade?

I don't think this is right. MPO==AM==the Travel Agent on a redemption ticket. Neither is the same as CX on a revenue ticket.
