Since my husband and I like to do ex-JNB RTWs, we find ourselves in South Africa on average a couple times a year. We enjoyed visiting Cape Town last time, when we stayed at the Westin Arabella Keys. We managed to find a reasonably clear day for Table Mountain, walked around the fort, the waterfront, etc. We also spent an afternoon in a gay district, walking around, browsing clothing stores, having a coffee at a bar, but didn't sample the night life beyond dinner at a restaurant.

We're returning on New Years, staying at the Hilton.

So far we've only done overnights or one day in Joburg, actually Sandton. We do want to visit some of the places there.

Lately my husband has been hearing stories of people followed from the airport and robbed in front of their hotel. Is this a real concern or only sensationalism? Since we land in JNB early in the morning, we're planning on taking the Gautrain, and the Hilton has a pickup so we don't have to walk.
