BHP has 268 reviews on the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom, with 166 stable and 23 unstable. I can't say how many are using a heavyweight but for sure you can't just plonk this little piece of plastic on the top of a table with a 1kg camera and expect anything good to come out of that.
