For room upgrades, I would check with Virtuoso or FHR. I received a room upgrade at check-in, and breakfast with Virtuoso last year. Visa also can bring down rates on extended stays at both the Plaza and Savoy. Somehow, I was able to combine the two, and paid a bit extra to stay in a Deluxe Rose Suite.
