If you are sitting at a bulkhead seat, by an emergency exit, or in Club/First then pop your shoes in the overhead locker.
The confusion often arises in Club when customers are asked to ether pop their shoes on or put them in the drawer or overhead locker. It's not that they need to be on per se, just that they must not be a trip hazard.
