When in Basel you can either go for the undisputed best (Trois Rois) or for something a bit more unusual (Teufelhof). I absolutely love the Teufelhof www.teufelhof.com/en/hotels.html which not only has very nice rooms in a great location but also a top notch restaurant. Of course you could opt for the prison-transformed-into-hotel "Au Violon", but more to be able to say you spent the night in prison than for the luxury :-)
