I fly Chinese domestic carriers quite a bit, generally a SHA or PVG flight to HKG, PEK, or SZX. I always book on Ctrip and always fly business class domestically in China as a way of managing the crowds, etc.. Since I live in Shanghai China Eastern often becomes my default carrier but I also have flown quite a bit on Air China. I've actually had good experiences with both these airlines and never had what I would consider an unsatisfactory one. This is all prelude to saying I flew Shenzhen Air for the first time about two months ago. Even though I couldn't tell you why I was expecting a not so good experience. I couldn't have been more wrong or more pleasantly surprised. The plane (seats identical to the flyertea.com link) was a little old but spacious and comfortable. The cabin attendants' English wasn't very good but it was certainly better than my Chinese and certainly adequate. The attendants were very pleasant and the service was excellent. And the meal was superb, even though only a 2-hr flight. It has to be the best meal I've ever been served on a flight under 5 hours. It was certainly better than ANA's C-class PVG>NRT meals, which have about the same flight time. I flew Shenzhen Air again a couple of weeks ago and I was genuinely curious to see what the experience would be this time. Only difference was the meal was not quite as good, but still good, and the CA's English was better. I'm in Shenzhen now and will fly them again tomorrow to SHA. I'm very curious to see how this third ZH trip works out.
