Yes, it is a big no-no. Why withdraw (which Serve frowns upon) when you can just pay any bill, including credit cards (which Serve is fine with)? Anyways, I wouldn't attempt it again if you want to avoid an account shutdown.
Is bill pay really treated any better than withdrawing to a bank account? In both cases I don't think AMEX is making money from those transactions, and they're both like giving yourself a cash advance. Or do you think they treat bill pay to a known company better than bill pay to a random person/yourself?
