Are you able to pick not only the times of your meals, but also the order? Specifically, with an early evening departure from Heathrow heading East, are you able to eat in the CCR then go straight to sleep on boarding, and later in the flight have breakfast, with "dinner" as lunch shortly before arrival?
It is very smart not to dine with the herd because you get more personalised attention and invariably much better service and the possibility that more individual requests (e.g. please do not cremate my beef) may actually be taken into account.
I typically eat in the lounge and dine in the air 2 hours after takeoff for a day flight. This doesn't tend to work so well for evening flights though when sleep is the most important thing.
You can arrange the meals at the times you want (within reason) however it will cause the crew some slight issue preparing a dinner for you whilst everyone else is being served breakfast. The breakfast is typically rubbish so I would recommend just sticking with dinner at a suitable time and then maybe having a Bircher muesli and pastries or something just before landing.
I always specify the meal that I want when the crew come around and take orders even if I am going to eat it later so I know that they keep it for me.
Another thing I often do on relevant flights is have the burger in place of afternoon tea.
