As noted by FrancisA your experience is definitely not the norm. If it was recent, then maybe BA is making progress on this front.

Note that proactive upgrades are not offered until On Line Check In or the airport if the following conditions apply to your ticket

* booked through a travel agent
* booked with another airline (that is the ticket is on 'stock' other than 125, this can be validated through checkmytrip.com )
* you have a connecting flight from the regions or Europe (this may change, success stories welcome)
* open jaw itinerary
* you are booked on an award or MFU ticket

One way tickets have a sporadic record of attracting these. Some report success, others have had no such luck regardless of whether I is being sold or not.

As Wozza2404 was on a donex or similar rtw ticket, he may have been not offered a POUG simply due to the limitations of the current system. We don't know if others may have been offered POUG's with simpler itineraries.

Did you ask at the airport if an Airport Upgrade Promotion was available for you to purchase?
