My uninformed speculation (WAG) is that NH and UA sat down and discussed the amount of capacity that the joint venture of NH and UA devoted to NRT-BKK; that they discussed the high costs that the joint venture suffered to have one daily UA flight on this route and jointly decided that it wasn't in their collective best interest for UA to continue NRT-BKK.
