I am curious how the airlines will be able to monazite personal cell phone usage. Do you think they would setup their own "plane specific" cellular network and charge for its use?
Well, with all the threads in the past few weeks on the topic of cell phone usage, including DL corporate representatives who are on FT, it has been explicitly stated that DL will absolutely not allow calls. There has also been a general consensus that the other US-based airlines will not allow it, either, but a point of discussion has been European airlines and their interest in allowing the service. This would be part of GoGo's plan to introduce GoGo Talk and Text, which would allow texting and calling while in flight (as opposed to just BBM and iMessaging which utilize wifi). So if that system was introduced, that is how cell phone use would be monetized.
