I am curious how the airlines will be able to monazite personal cell phone usage. Do you think they would setup their own "plane specific" cellular network and charge for its use?
To use a phone to make calls on a plane, reliably, you need what's known as a picocell. The airlines would have to install it on their planes, so it would be pretty easy for them to set it up to charge you per minute for using their cell to connect to ground.
