I did not take a flight that left on time but was diverted (and I knew there was a very good chance it would be given weather conditions after looking at the radar) and arrived at the destination well over 2 hours late.

Given the flight left on time I guess my chances are very slim. But at least I can try and point out that a departure delay leading to the same arrival delay would lead to refund eligibility.

Ironically I was to qualify for status on this trip, will now make lowly Gold status this Friday.

It's not clear (at least it's not clear to me) what you did. Could you tell us what you did rather than what you did not do?
