These processes indeed include references to the handling of late arriving or "ad hoc" freight/bags. For example such references include the location of the aircraft to load such (forward/aft etc.) in contrast to the that designated priority.
In any case it would be rare that such freight comprise a significant amount of hold utilisation.
Generally these processes work well when followed - the problem is in getting them adhered to, both at the origination and the destination posts.
It is a management problem of which a major part is in combating the egalitarian mood of the Australian workforce.
Spot on. Leaving SYD 3 J PAX had to disembark due to one taking ill. The Captain announced that as they were flying J their bags should have been last loaded and easy to locate.
I know there are PER-Pilbara / SYD-BNE/MEL etc flights with a high portion of elites travelling but in the main, by QF's own statistics there would be less than 15% of any flight that have baggage "priority". By that I mean 12-36 J pax, and possibly 30 in WHY aircracf dependant. Given most carry on it is my opinion that only the incompetence or sheer laziness of the baggage handlers would result in a non delivery of this simple, and important benefit.
For some reason I was at PER airport 90 minutes early yesterday. Logic would state that I should have been the last "priority" bag off (given it was probably first checked in).
The thing that really grinds my gears is these personel are quick to strike for more coin, better conditions etc etc, how about you do your job better (timely accurate delivery of items per your airlines policy) and people may just be inclined to support your call!
rant over (for now)
