Here is another little twist. Mrs. Karch and I vacationed at the Ritz Carlton in Naples. Let's say we paid $400 per night which was a package rate that included valet parking, breakfast (I am Marriott plat, not RC plat), and chairs at the beach. One might assume that 4,000 base points (400 x 10) would be earned per night. That assumption proved incorrect. The RC assigned a "value" of, lets say, $250 to the room rate and the remaining $150 were amenities. (Don't hold me to the numbers as they are unimportant.) My base point earning was 2,500 (250 x 10). There was nothing in the reservation ahead of time to let me know what the base would be. It seems rather arbitrary.

We enjoyed our stay. We didn't pick the hotel based upon points earnings, but I found this interesting.
