Glad to see AS isn't allowing the searches. I believe it is analogous to allowing searches for adult novelties or reading material in counties (because this is a county law) where the items are illegal. Same as transporting firearms on the airplane in checked luggage. It isn't Alaska's job to know which firearm or magazine is legal in the jurisdiction it is flying to. To have Alaska support this (as Era apparently is) would be to extend the arm of the state into the private sector more than it already does. Do we do the same for larger than personal use stashes of prescription pills?
Also, given that double-blind (handler and dog) studies of drug-sniffing dogs show that they are not reliable enough to justify the warrants (regardless of what the prosecution-heavy experience of SCOTUS says), I'm glad to hear that Alaska isn't condoning this.
Is Barrow the only airport where AS flies into a dry county? What about Prudhoe? Isn't DFW in a dry county?
