Well in this case it depends on which airline you can find space on from DFW to LHR. If it's just BA then you'll want to redeem avios -- similar surcharges, similar number of miles, but as always each avios is worth less so if you can get some value out of them you should do so. Hope you're not booking in Y as your surcharges are gonna be massive. (Edit you said F so nvm on that!)
If however you find space DFW-LHR on AA then you'll want to redeem aadvantage miles since it will save you $600+ in surcharges per person round trip.
Way back through try getting creative with aa miles. Book LHR-dfw-koa/HNL/ogg/lih for the same number of miles and consider dfw the stopover point (book the Oneway to hawaii for whenever you may want to go to hawaii or as far out as possible so you can pull the segment in later). Then use a handful of avios for dfw to lft.
