Same old policy, just described to you poorly.
You will forfeit all points earned in the current statement period. i.e. you "forfeit" the points that haven't been posted to your Southwest account yet. This is the reason that one should not charge to the card if expecting to cancel during the same statement period.
Experience: canceled card earlier this month, "forfeited" 9 points in the form of not receiving 9 points in my RR account even though the CC statement stated 9 points were reported to WN.
