IMO giving only one day to Angkor is too rushed. There's much more there than the big 3, and if you do those in the usual sequence you could get to share 'em with quite a few others. With Angkor you're seeing a fragile place not well adapted to the visitor numbers but not likely to get a reprieve anytime soon.

Dunno how you are with jet lag, but you're getting the worst-case scenario (12-hour offset). I'm also in the eastern zone and have a strong circadian rhythm (can't just sleep on demand), so what usually happens is a very diurnal pattern on the first few days (wide awake at 5 a.m., big "crash" around 8 p.m., then pushing it back gradually). This would work well for the floating market and some temples, not so much so for nightlife. I've learned to plan for it.

With Chiang Mai you really need to see Wat Doi Suthep. IMO the night bazaar is really overrated but there ARE a lot of crafts and other stuff and - unlike the weekend market in Bangkok - you actually do have some elbow room.
