The only work around is to not let AMEX identify you as an existing cardholder of ANY AMEX personal card when you apply another AMEX personal card, to ensure you are not screwed out of the bonus. That was what I had done on the recent SPG personal, never log in and cleared all AMEX cookies on my computer before applying.
I was able to find a link without the "may not" wording.
It's 10k first purchase and I doubt I'll spend more than that ( $5k/15,000 more points) even if the 10K does post.
Won't Amex ( if they really care ) know if you already have an Amex card regardless of if you login or not ? It's all tied to your SS number.
