I just logged into my wife's amex acct. and clicked on the SPG card offer (10K pts only) and this is what it said:
If you are identified as a current American Express® Card Member, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months. "May not" doesn't mean "will not". I think you should be OK if you haven't had this particular card in the last 12 months.
You are being wishful thinking. By and large, this type of language uses "may not" instead of "will not" - but it really means "will not".
If you read the thread referred a few posts above, you would have learned this is happening - Once you see that language and still apply thru that link, you are screwed.
The only work around is to not let AMEX identify you as an existing cardholder of ANY AMEX personal card when you apply another AMEX personal card, to ensure you are not screwed out of the bonus. That was what I had done on the recent SPG personal, never log in and cleared all AMEX cookies on my computer before applying.
However
flyer4512 is telling us that regardless which computer he uses, he still sees that message. This might mean the link he uses, is already a "contaminated" link. He would need to find a new link to see if no such warning would pop up.
