UA, like most NAmerican airlines, stopped serving peanuts years ago and went to pretzels. UA announced last week it was eliminating pretzels. Always pack a couple of granola bars...you never know when they'll come in handy, particularly in periods of bad weather, flight delays and on transcons and transoceanic flights!
