Actually, that passenger should have known there would be an emergency, you DO NOT FLY after major eye surgery. It is the first thing they tell you when you wake up. I have had four eye surgeries of various kinds and some 25 odd needles injected into my eye. You cannot fly after these surgeries, period, sometimes for up to a month depending on the specific condition.

I have not got as much sympathy for that passenger in a completely preventable situation...
