This is a service-culture issue first and foremost, and UA is trying to improve profits by deleting service. I'm sure a food-free, IFE-free 737 on a marathon transcon sounds great to the bean-counters. But I'm also sure United Airlines is a topic of conversation at more than one Thanksgiving table in the Seattle area today, and not in a good way.
It's hilarious that their idea of service recovery is to comp IFE on an aircraft with no IFE.
Bear, you have hit it dead on: just how FUBAR is the new UACO that tried to offer free DirectTV on a plane with no IFE. Hilarious, and this set of Keystone Cops is about to have Doug Parker breathing down their neck.
