Hertz: Its Ok to Rent a Car with Air Bag Malfunction

So I am in Baltimore for Thanksgiving and I had a rental through Hertz as I was using points as I was not going to pay $80+ a day for a car. It was late when I arrive and I got my carfirmation that I have an Impala which was ok.

I load all my luggage and family into the car and go to start the car and the air bag malfunction light goes off along with a warning sound. I know this is not good as my wife's car had a similar issue after an accident. The warning light means the air bag could deploy accidentally or not deploy in accident. I was not happy as it was late and I just wanted to go. I go back across the lot to the Gold Choice line to find beat up Impalas all with over 20K miles and choose the best of the crap as customer service reps could not be found.

I get to the checkout line and get the third degree from the gate agent on why I chose a Gold Choice car. I explained the situation and he was that should no be reason to pick a new car. The gate agent then got a call from his manager questioning why I chose a gold choice car and that I should have taken my car as that the car is still good even with bad airbags.

I found that shocking and kind of alarming with the poor quality control and also the questioning of why I took a gold choice car as that has never happened before.
