I fail to believe that someone wanting to fly from London to Doha would be prepared to almost double the journey time by going via EDI. You might have a point from Newcastle, but that's about it. It's even less likely that a meaningful number of people would use this loophole if they were trying to get to, say, HKG. Far better to go to BRU or CDG - you're closer and heading in the right direction!
Passports and visas.
There are no prospects of borders and border controls between the home nations. Neither side is suggesting that will ever be a possibility.
Ah, but isn't there a problem here with the Schengen area? As I understand it, all new applicants to the EU have to sign up to Schengen which presents a bit of a problem for both sides.
FWIW, I'm of the opinion it won't happen.
