I've checked with the Aeroplan Platinum toll free #, and the rep communicated that the statement I quoted applies to Aeroplan point redemptions. The statement quoted refers to Aeroplan redemptions not excluded from insurance coverage. Coincidentally, MR points language refers to the Membership Reward Points of Amex. So I found that the terminology could have been edited to reflect accurately "Aeroplan" in the Certificates of Insurance
