A few days ago, the Meliá Varadero was reported as having lift issues. But both hotels should afford a decent stay (allow for an occasional power or other blip) and are conveniently located.

I can't imagine what other arrangements you would need than a confirmed booking at each hotel, but I would recommend bringing a hard copy of the bookings.
