Interesting! How long ago was this? The rules seem fairly clear that this wouldn't be allowed on an Avios + Cash booking, but maybe if the agent actually tries to do the re-routing on their system (thus ignoring the rules) then it might actually work? Difficult is persuading them to give it a go!
