That must be a new development. I received the bonus for opening Gold Business in the summer, and I have other Amex personal cards.
The only problem I've had with a sign up bonus is the SPG personal card (which many people have reported problems with). Had to really argue to get the 15,000 points (part of the standard 25,000 point offer), despite the fact I had never had an SPG card before.
