I was going to ask the same question as the OP but I guess that dashes my hopes. I'm on an H fare combined with some other flights within S America, booked as a one-way, so J was prohibitively expensive.

I guess that's going to be 8 hours in Y - how is their Y product on this route? I wouldn't have OW status at the time of this flight.
