The BAEC website is the formal information source for the BAEC programme.
Several FTers people believed this 115% earnings rate was an unnanounced change, and I can imagine held back booking because of this "change". It therefore had the potential to have a financial impact, as well as a reputational risk, as people will now feel less confident of the accuracy of information displayed on BAEC's websites (if that wasn't already the case anyway....).
Nicci went above and beyond, posting a correction on here over the weekend. That's commendable.
However, it is disappointing that it took customers, via an informal channel, to point out the error (which seems to have persisted for a number of days prior to being posted here).
What is clear is that there is no procedure for correcting incorrect info immediately, even at weekends. What if the website was hacked or some other, more serious, error happened?
While this isn't earth-shattering in its importance, it demonstrates two things:
1. Proofreading needs to be improved, with two eye sign off for every change, plus a check post go-live.
2. Where errors are discovered due to a failure of (1) above, then there needs to be an out of hours process for resolving the error.
It's not really a blame issue - accidents happen.
But it's how your systems and procedures respond to such errors which is telling.
This is no big deal - it's simply a process change which needs to be addressed. Easily fixed after this learning point, in order to head off a more serious error in future.
Just to reassure everyone, there is a process to support ba.com at the weekend. I don't want anyone to think that we don't monitor the performance of the site at the weekend.
Warm regards
