You could go to the CX Skyview lounge and do what you need to do before heading through immigration. They won't let you back into the transit area if you don't have boarding passes for the next flight.

Thanks both for the quick responses. I should be able to check through but as you say, BPs may be an issue since SIN-SYD is >24 hours after my originating flight SFO-HKG. But then there's always the transfer desk. Hopefully won't have to retrieve checked bags...
