For all flights arriving/departing Australia, the dutyfree must be delivered at the door of any airplane (gate):

Alcohol purchased in an airport shop and handcarried to the plane is NOT acceptable. For example, you cannot buy liquid at HKG dutyfree shops because they do not deliver to the airplane door. The Australians are very strict with the policy. SIN dutyfree shops deliver at the door, so that's OK.
As mentioned above, you can also buy directly upon arrival.
If the cc was allowing you to keep the LHR-purchased bottles onboard she would get into serious trouble.
