You have to carry your passport with you. You don't need it to go through Nexus, but you are supposed to have it with you anyway when traveling by air.
That has certainly been the rule I have always followed, but
fritzzz25 posted an e-mail he said he received from Nexus that appears to indicate this is no longer required.
That has prompted me to check the US Customs web site which now says: "Travel by Air: All Canadian Citizens entering the United States by AIR are required to present a valid passport,
or an Air NEXUS card when departing from a designated Canadian airport."
