I booked a friend, who is CX gold, on several AA flights. Before putting in her CX number, AA.com showed that I would have to pay extra for MCE seats. After I entered her CX number, I was able to choose MCE seats for her without a fee. I assume that's evidence of AA recognizing her status. FWIW.
