Using BA Card for Flight on Partner Airlines

Hi FT community,

Simple question: I have a BA card and I see that I get 2.5 points for every dollar spent on flights booked through their system. I have a flight to Australia from NYC that I need to book in the coming days, and will most likely be flying Qantas (One World Alliance).

If I book through ba.com, would I get the 2.5 points per dollar in the booking?

I'm also curious about what this means for mileage accrual. Since this is a partner flight, do I get half of the miles awarded in Avios? If that is the case, should I open a Qantas account and book through their website directly (and therefore, preclude myself from the 2.5x multiplier)?

FYI, I will be making this flight to Australia as well as another one from NYC in the next three months. If two RT flights between NYC and Australia accounts for enough miles for something redeemable on Qantas (e.g. a RT fare to New Zealand, or Cairns), then it might be worth my time to accrue the Qantas miles.

There's no way to get Qantas miles 1:1 and Avios 2:1, is there?

Appreciate the thoughts!
