I thought I'd share an amusing conversation I just had checking in for a flight Abu Dhabi to London in Club on BA.
When I checked in I was informed that I had the opportunity to take advantage of a great offer. Club World was overbooked and First was full, so would I be interested in taking £300 in cash and trading in my business class seat for one in economy?
I got that exact same 'offer' returning from Dubai last summer. Overnight return to London, had paid just over £5100 for a last minute trip. On check in for the return I was offered £300 for a J-Y downgrade. I laughed and asked if she meant W and £3000 compensation, to which the BA staff member replied; "we have a lot of military on this route and £300 is good money to them, we'll get takers" .
The tone of our conversation changed after that.
