It all depends on what your interest are. The gay scene Stockholm is more like NYC in the sense of being the HIP place to be. Gothenburg (west coast) is more laid back, like BOS or PHL. GOT is 3 hours south of OSL and 3 hours north of CPH. Personally, because I live in GOT and being an american, I prefer to be laid back and explore. SJ trains really are quite awful in Sweden. For me its cheaper to fly from GOT/CPH to ARN then the train..

GOT like BOS? Wow, it must have changed a lot since I lived there in the 90s, and there was essentially one gay bar open two nights a week. I'm delighted it's changed to the point of you enjoying it! Being foreign always helps (it was a bit creepy turning up at that little bar where it was obvious that everybody had already slept with everybody). But really, I think Stockholm has the edge. It really is quite stunningly beautiful, and also rather cheaper than Copenhagen. And the trains are not *that* bad! If you do book the train, note that pricing is similar to airlines - e g you can get dirt cheap deals if you book early. These cheap deals if you book far in advance also include First Class, which is not exactly the lap of luxury but sometimes it's almost the same price as Standard Class.
