* Speculation at the start of the thread.
* Useful info in the middle once people had started flying.
* Repetitive questions towards the end of the thread.

This does hide some of the most valuable information in the middle of the thread which does make it harder to find. The problem is compounded by the search feature which by default will ignore short terms (eg 4A, 31A or 77W). I know you can work around this by using quotation marks, but the average person just entering the site from google isn't going to know that - it would be nice if someone could fix the forum's source code.

May be useful to have key milestones linked to from the wiki (eg here is the first post from someone who flew on the plane). May also be useful to delete repetitive questions and pm the user with a link to where they should be looking to avoid cluttering up the thread. Would definitely be useful to fix the search to not ignore short requests. This would reduce the appearance of snark and also make searching easier...

Any thoughts?
Emphasis added-- this is a great idea. Just a link to get past the speculation would be great, as it's difficult to know where to start reading a consolidated thread: at the end? no, because that's gone off topic. at the beginning? no, because it's a bunch of speculation or snark.
