I imagine that you are going to get pretty much the same advice from everyone: don't bother. Get an Explorer UA credit card for free and pay for any E+ seating you feel you need. The chances of upgrades as a Silver are already low, and given that many of the aircraft flying in and out of YYC are A319s and CRJ 700s and 200s (woo woo!), your chances are even lower.
