Too heavy? My wife does it sometime. She has an old 17" laptop which is quite heavy and not worth much money even if stolen. If she is with me, we keep it in carry-on, but if she is by herself, sometime she will check it in. It is just too heavy for her to lift up to the overhead bin and she doesn't like to ask others for help.
